We've had a couple of fake members join up and send spam friendship/wall posts with the aim of asking you for email addresses etc. We've removed these members and made the sign up process a bit harder with the addition of a question as well as letters/numbers to type to try to stop false members.
Your details on the Brighton Ramblers site are secure - but if you had emailed these members from your email account then they would have gained your email address. If you communicate through this site your email address is kept private and so is more secure.
We'll be keeping an eye on this internet problem and how it affects this site. There are other steps that we can take to further improve security but these will make joining the site even harder and time consuming and we want to encourage new members. We'll keep a watch on this balance but comments welcome!
