Leader

Dear BAHR members,

As you probably know, I have recently taken over from Chris as 30s-50s Walks Programme Co-ordinator.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank Chris for his excellent work in putting together the programme over the last few years - hopefully with your help I will be a worthy successor!

The next programme runs from March to June, covering the 17 Sundays and 7 Wednesday evenings listed below. With a total of 41 walks planned for the next programme, in order to fully complete this I need help from both new and previous leaders to share a favourite walk or explore a new walk in an area that interests you. Walks can be led individually or jointly, by anyone who is a paid-up member of the Ramblers.

No special training is required and you do not have to make up a walk from scratch – there are many guidebooks and also many walks available on the internet.  In addition walk leaders are often happy to share their walks and do a recce with you.  If you have any questions / want any help in planning a walk then please speak to one of our existing walk leaders or feel free to contact me.

Attendance has again been very high on most walks in recent programmes, so we are once again looking to offer the choice of two different walks on most Sundays, with ideally at least one walk with a public transport option (PT), as an alternative to cars required (CR). There is a demand for shorter walks of between 5-8½ miles (S), either morning or afternoon, as well as our longer day walks which can be anything between 9-15 miles (L). Our Wednesday evening walks during the lighter summer months are normally around 3½-5½ miles.

Can you please send an email as soon as possible to 30s50s-walks@bahr.org.uk with your preferred date(s) from the list below, where possible indicating L or S and PT or CR (and also if known the starting place).   This announcement will be updated on a regular basis in order to show the latest availability.

Can you please also complete details of your walk on the Ramblers' specially designed template, which can be downloaded from http://bahr.org.uk/page/programmes (you will first need to sign-in to the main BAHR website).

The relevant .xls file can be opened/edited in Microsoft Excel, and a number of alternative apps. Apache OpenOffice is available as a free download for PCs and Macs, and Kingsoft WPS Office is available as a free download for Android, iPhones, iPads and Windows. Simply hover your cursor over the column headings in the spreadsheet to see what data is required in each cell.

Can you please complete the template with all relevant information and then forward your saved MS Excel file as an email attachment to 30s50s-walks@bahr.org.uk as soon as possible and at the latest by Friday 10th February 2017. Please remember to include your Ramblers membership number. (If you have any questions about / problems with the template please e-mail me).

Many thanks in advance for your prompt responses to enable me to put together a comprehensive programme for the Spring!
