This undulating 10½ mile walk will begin at 10.15am from the 'Lintons' car park in the Ashdown Forest, between Wych Cross and Coleman's Hatch. The starting point provides one of the most scenic views northwards over the Ashdown Forest and the Sussex Weald. Along our route the countryside is fairly varied, and the wooded sections always look attractive in Autumn. We will be passing several places featured in the recent film ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’, including Pooh Sticks Bridge and the memorial to AA Milne.

Lunch will be in Hartfield, with a choice of picnic, pub, or tea room, and the village store should also be open. A group booking has been made at the Anchor Inn for 12.45pm, but at the moment there are no pre-reserved places left on our table. We intend to finish the walk before sunset at 4.15pm, and the lunchtime stop is expected to last no longer than 60-75 minutes, depending on how quickly our food is served.

Directions: Heading east along Coleman’s Hatch Road from the traffic lights at Wych Cross, the 'Lintons' car park is the next one after 'Broadstone', on the left, close to the top of the hill and opposite the 'Ridge' which has now been closed. Parking is free, but spaces are limited, and car sharing is advised where possible. The nearest postcode RH18 5JP is a third of a mile south west of the car park. Click on this link for map and the arrow marks the precise location of ‘Lintons’. We will meet everyone here.

Please post a comment on the BAHR 30s-50s Meetup Site if you are able to offer any members a lift from the south end of Preston Park, Brighton (near to the Rose Garden) for a 9.15am departure at the latest. Expenses are shared between the driver and passengers at the rate of 30p per mile. The journey from Preston Park should take around 45 minutes by car via the A27/A275 route, according to the AA. Kindly ensure that you allow sufficient time for the journey, especially if 'Lintons' is full on arrival and it is then necessary to park in 'Broadstone'. Note that the latter is 8 or 9 minutes away on foot.

The walking pace is graded M (moderate), and there are hills, with our total ascent amounting to approximately 1350 feet, as indicated in the BAHR walks programme. There are going to be some muddy stretches to negotiate and we recommend wearing walking boots.

Fingers crossed that the weather is decent this Sunday.

Cheers
