Navigation Course on Tuesday 6th July 2021

Improve Your Navigation Skills

Brighton & Hove Ramblers has arranged a one-day navigation course to improve people’s skills and confidence in their ability to plan and navigate walks in the great outdoors. It will start from first principles and cover various aspects, from grid references, compass skills and bearings, to timings and how to complete a route card. After the course you should feel confident in your ability to plan a route and navigate around it in the estimated time.  We hope that with improved confidence, people may feel more able to lead Ramblers groups on day walks in the future.

The course will be delivered by three experienced Ramblers walk leaders and is divided into two sessions.  A socially distanced classroom session will run from 9.00am to 1.00pm, followed by an outdoor practical navigation course in the local area in the afternoon.

There will be a lunch break of about half an hour.  We envisage that, after the practical section and debrief, the course would end around 4.15pm.

All maps etc. will be supplied. You will only need a compass, walking gear and a pen and something to make a few notes in.  A course handout will cover all the essentials.

Date: Tuesday 6th July 2021.

Location: Plumpton College Stanmer, One Garden Brighton, Stanmer Park. Brighton   BN1 9SE.

Parking is available at the venue for around £5.00 for the day. The college is also on bus routes from Brighton.

Cost: The course will be paid for by Brighton & Hove Ramblers, so the only cost to those attending will be for parking or transport to and from the venue.

How to apply: The course is only open to Ramblers members and there are twelve 12 places available arranged on a first come first served basis. If you would like to attend please contact Stuart Ellis (chair@bahr.org.uk) with your contact details and Ramblers membership #. Joining instructions will be sent nearer the time and we will comply with all GDPR regulations.
