30s-50s Falmer and Plumpton Downland Classic - Sunday 8 February

Join us for a classic downland walk starting from Falmer village and walking past the medieval field system at Balmer Down. Then up through the hidden wooded valley at Ashcombe Botton and down to lunch at the Half Moon at Plumpton. Steep return via Shambledean Botton and Stanmer Down. Please bring cars to The Level at 10am or meet at Falmer pond at 1030am

Sunday's walk: Autumn Colours at Gravetye Manor

Sunday, 26 October 2014 - 8 fairly flat miles through the lovely High Weald. Starting at 10.45am in the Car Park at Minepit Wood off Vowles Lane near Kingscote Station, lunch at the excellent Red Lion in Turner's Hill (picnic if you prefer). Returning via Gravetye Manor. Hopefully the Fall should be perfect but it will be muddy underfoot.

Sunday 1st June Shermanbury Walk

 

A gentle (6 miles flat) summer walk around the upper reaches of the River Adur. Starting from the lay-by at Adur Cottages on the A281 beyond Henfield and near the Garden Centre, across the fields to Wineham and lunch at the Royal Oak. Returning by the river to the start. Lovely! Chichester Harbour Walk on Sunday 18 May

All welcome for this great (9 mile flat) walk around Chichester Harbour on Sunday. Start outside Bull's Head, Fishbourne at 10.45 (not the station this time). Park in Mill Lane next to pub, off the A259. A lovely waterside walk via Itchenor for lunch at The Ship Inn or picnic by the river, over on the West Itchenor Ferry (£2 charge) to Bosham and other villages returning to Fishbourne and tea at the Bull's Head. Sunday 2 February Arundel to Slindon circular

Join us for an unusual Arundel walk via Yewtree Gate to the lovely village of Slindon for cafe or pub lunch. Returning via Rewell Wood. Great Views but fairly hilly with some mud. Cars required from the Level in Brighton at 10am please. The walk departs from outside Arundel Baptist Church in Torton Hill Lane off the A27/A284 roundabout by Arundel at 10.45. Nine miles in total.

This Sunday: A Downland Classic

This Sunday we're going to do a classic Downland walk from Falmer to Plumpton and back. It's about 9 miles in total.

Starting in Falmer Village and walking past the Medieval field system at Balmer Down, through the magical wood at Ashcombe Bottom, climbing up to Blackcap before descending to Plumpton for lunch at the Half Moon. Back via Plumpton Plain. Hilly but worth it: good training!

Sunday's Chiddingly Festival Walk 29th September

Mel's Sunday Henfield Walk - Short and flat!

Led by 40-50s Leader. Henfield circular partly using the Downslink and taking in Ewhurst pond and a lovely walk by the River Adur in the afternoon. Six miles - an easy flat walk. Pub lunch at The Bull in Henfield which has a large garden. Walk starts from the Downlink car park by the Cat and Canary pub in Henfield at 10.30am or meet at the Level at 10am.

Sunday 14 July Walk: Reigate-Box Hill circular

Go North! Our chance to walk the North Downs Way for a change. Starting from Reigate Heath and following the downs at low level before climbing up to Box Hill NT cafe for lunch or picnic. Chichester Harbour Walk on Sunday 21 April

We will now be taking cars on this walk as it is rail replacement buses on Sunday and it would take 2 hours by bus! Please bring a car if you have one.

Meet at the back of Brighton Station at 9.15 and depart at 9.30 for the drive to Fishbourne Station expecting to arrive at 10.30 for the start of the walk from the station car park.

Hoping for a pub (or picnic) lunch at Itchenor before the ferry and return via Bosham to Fishbourne. Nice and flat 10…

Ashdown Forest - Sunday's 40-50s walk

Will it be spring or winter on Sunday for this classic Ashdown Forest walk? 8 miles starting at Gils Lapp Car Park in the heart of the Forest via Withyham to pub lunch at Hartfield (or picnic or cafe), returning via Pooh Sticks Bridge. It was muddy last week so come prepared. Please let me know if going to start.

Update on Sunday's Balcombe Circular

It looks like the White Hart Pub has closed down so I am now planning an early lunchstop at Wakehurst Place Cafe. This means a short morning and longer afternoon so you may want to bring extra food.

Sunday's Balcombe Circular

I will be leaving the Level on Sunday morning at 10 am to drive to Balcombe Station for a 10.45 start. Brighton will be busy on Sunday because of the half marathon so if you prefer to go on the train there is one leaving at 10.04 arriving 10.30.

This should be a lovely walk in the High Weald, passing through Wakehurst Place and stopping for lunch at the White Hart Inn before returning to the Station in time to take the train back to Brighton. The Station Car Park cost £1 last time I…

 Join us for a shortish 6 mile walk around Falmer, Stanmer and the University grounds on Sunday 30 December.
