Mission accomplished: dozens of orchids seen today

After visiting the Saxon church at Pycombe, this three miles walk took the group up into the mist and low cloud. Black cows and calves loomed into view and took no notice of us. New to the hill was a group of young steers, which were inquisitive and stood and stared as we walked amongst them.

PROW Volunteer Rangers busy building bridges

WSCC Public Rights of Way Volunteer Rangers have commenced work today in Westup wood off Deaks Lane near Pondtail cottage, north of Ansty, building a new bridge.
Hundredweights of ballast and cement needed to be carried to the site for concrete foundations -- lacking on the broken bridge. Tomorrow, hopefully the new bridge itself will be manhandled in position. These guys don't need to lift weights in a gym. Building bridges is more fun. And they have…

Blues blown away on the Chalk Hills above Firle on Thursday 5th August 2021

Terry and Wendy lead 12 wind-blown members of Brighton and Hove Ramblers from Firle up and along the Downs on a blustery, six miles circular walk on 5th August.  The views were great.  And there were no blues amongst this happy band.
