Please join me for a spring walk in an attractive area of the High Weald, with views over Weir Wood Reservoir from various locations. Along the route we will be passing Lower Lake in the Gravetye Estate, crossing the Bluebell steam Railway line several times, visiting Stone Farm Rocks and following a section of the Sussex Border Path.

Free parking in the Finche Field car park, Church Hill, West Hoathly, but spaces are limited, so where possible, car sharing is advised. Some on-street parking may also be available in Top Road / Sharpthorne Road, which is approximately five minutes away on foot.

Kindly post a comment here or on the BAHR 30s-50s Meetup Site if you are able to offer any members a lift from the south end of Preston Park, Brighton (near to the Rose Garden) for a 9.35am departure. The journey should take around 40 minutes. Expenses are shared between the driver and passengers at the rate of 30p per mile. I shall be meeting everyone at the starting point, and aim to set off promptly at 10.30am.

Lunch will be in Forest Row with a choice of various pubs and cafés. Alternatively, bring a picnic to have beside the church or buy food in the local Tesco Express or Co-op store. We are going to be stopping there for a maximum of 75 minutes. Anyone wanting a drink or perhaps a meal after the walk can go to The Fox in nearby Highbrook Lane.

The terrain varies from metalled paths, grassy and dirt tracks (both can be muddy after rain) to country lanes. Our route is probably best described as more undulating than hilly, with 1100 feet of ascent and descent. The total distance is just over 11 miles.

I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

Chris

P.S. Extra care will need to be taken when walking a short distance along The Hollow, soon after we begin the walk. The road has no pavement and some of the traffic can be travelling quite fast.
