Reminder: 30s–50s Chailey Common, Wivelsfield Green and Scaynes Hill Circular – Sunday 6th November 2016

Join us for an Autumn walk of 10.5 miles from Pound Common to Wivelsfield Green and Scaynes Hill. We will be passing through the attractive heathlands of Red House Common and Chailey Common on the return leg of the walk. A section of the route before and after lunch follows the Sussex Border Path.

The walk will begin promptly at 10.15am from the small ‘Pound Common’ car park on the east side of North Common Road, off the B2183, around 0.5 km SW of Chailey Heritage School, near North Chailey, East Sussex. Some additional spaces are also available in the Romany Ridge car park, a short distance away on the other side of North Common Road at grid reference TQ377207. Car sharing is advised.

Kindly post a comment here or preferably on the BAHR 30s-50s Meetup Site if you are able to offer any members a lift from the south end of Preston Park, Brighton (near to the Rose Garden) for a latest 9.35am departure. The journey from there should take under 30 minutes, but arrange to leave a bit earlier if you are not sure of how to find the starting point for the walk. We will be meeting everyone at Pound Common. Unfortunately, if anybody tries contacting us there, the mobile reception in the area is poor. NB. Expenses are shared between the driver and passengers at the rate of 30p per mile.

The pub stop for lunch is going to be in Scaynes Hill, where a table has been booked for 14 people. However, there are already no pre-reserved places left unless somebody cancels. Our menu choice will be restricted to the roast dinners on offer. Otherwise, you can take your chance of being able to order food at the bar. There is also seating available in the pub garden which can be used, providing that you buy a drink from them first. We are likely to be there for around 60-75 minutes, depending on how long it takes for us to be served at the pub.

Please note that the walk will need to be done at our regular moderate pace to ensure that we arrive by 1.00pm for the lunch. The total ascent / descent involved is approximately 700 feet. We do not usually have an official backmarker, so then the onus is on you at all times to keep sight of another member of the group in front.

We look forward to seeing some of you on Sunday.
